TCA Cross: Frequently Asked Questions

  • The treatment is very tolerable and does not require numbing. The treatment area is cleansed with a solution, then a fine instrument is used to place the TCA solution precisely within the scar. Each treated area forms a tiny white frost that will later scab and heal after 5-7 days.

    Although patients will usually see an improvement in scarring with TCA cross, Dr. Aivaz often combines the treatment with lasers, microneedling, or Genius/LaseMD for optimal results.

  • Patients typically require 3-6 treatments, spaced every four weeks.

  • TCA cross has an excellent safety record in Dr. Aivaz’s hands. There may be mild and temporary redness or pigmentation that results in the treated area, and will fade within 2-8 weeks after treatment. To minimize this risk, sunscreen and strict sun protection is imperative for 2 weeks post-procedure.
