What Are Laser Skin Treatments?

Laser treatments use precise amounts of heat energy released from a special device to treat a range of skin concerns. Some of the main concerns that we address with lasers include:
  • Visible veins
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Skin discoloration (sun spots, age spots, freckles)
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Mild skin laxity
  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • And more

Our Laser Options

Vascular Laser: These lasers are designed to reduce the appearance of visible veins, particularly in sensitive areas such as around the eyes.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL): A gentler treatment option that helps improve the texture and color of the skin. Ideal for addressing cosmetic concerns related to photoaging (due to exposure to sunlight).
LumenisResurFX Fractional Laser: These lasers deliver beams deeper into the tissues, generating regenerative action in columns of tissues. Used for laser skin resurfacing, this is one of our more revitalizing treatments with options for flexible intensity.
Laser Skin Tightening: A treatment that focuses on improving skin texture by using a laser to facilitate both the tightening of current collagen and the production of new collagen and elastin.

How Do Laser Treatments Work?

When the body’s cells are exposed to the heat generated by a laser device, they can react in different ways. For veins, they may break down and be reabsorbed by the body, reducing their appearance and leading to clearer skin. Other laser treatments can tighten your skin and kickstart the production of new collagen.

Which Laser Treatment Is Right for Me?

The type and intensity of a laser treatment will depend on the concerns you want to address. In many cases, a single laser treatment can actually improve more than one aspect of your skin’s appearance or texture. In other cases, a combination of treatments may be the best solution.
Choosing on your own might seem overwhelming, which is why we start with a consultation with our board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Ohara Aivaz. She is particularly attuned to the differences in skin health and needs from one patient to the next. This allows her to help match you with the safest, most effective treatment for your concerns.

What Is a Laser Skin Treatment Session Like?

The experience can vary for your laser treatment session, but even more intense treatments are well tolerated. The two main factors to consider are the intensity of the treatment and the areas you want to treat. Intensity can range from very light to stronger lasers. The areas to be treated will affect the overall duration of treatment, with some areas taking longer than others.

Do Laser Treatments Have a Recovery Period?

Laser treatments tend not to require any obligatory downtime as surgery would. However, there can still be a recovery period ranging from a couple of days to about 2 weeks, depending on the type and intensity of your treatment.
All this means is that there can be mild side effects that occur during this period. Some normal examples include redness, swelling, dryness, and itchiness. However, these all tend to fade and should not interfere with most of your daily routine. Still, some patients prefer to take a bit of time off (or have treatment over the weekend) before returning to work. Dr. Aivaz can provide an overview of what to expect based on your individual treatment plan.

Laser Skin Treatment Results

Laser treatments produce gradual but very noticeable improvements following each treatment session. While some immediate improvements can be seen within 1 or 2 weeks of your session, these are only the beginning. You can expect continued improvements after each session as your body continues to produce new collagen and respond to the treatment.
What to Know About Results
  • Completing your full treatment regimen is essential to see results that match expectations.
  • Caring for your skin after treatment helps improve results.
  • Continue to avoid things that age your skin (smoking, sun exposure, etc.).
